Web Design for Online Shops, Built Around the Checkout
Websites for businesses selling their own product online, built around the things that decide whether the basket turns into an order. Fixed prices from £800, live in two to four weeks.
Trade Knowledge
An online shop is won and lost on the detail nobody photographs
Every visitor to an online shop arrives already able to buy, which sounds like an advantage and is mostly a burden. There is no assistant to answer the question that is stopping them, no shelf to pick the thing up off, and no conversation at the till. Whatever the customer needs to know has to already be on the page, and if it is not, they close the tab rather than ask.
That is why most lost sales are lost to surprise rather than to price. A delivery cost that only appears at the final step, a size or finish that turns out to be unavailable after it has been chosen, a returns policy that cannot be found: each one arrives after the customer has already committed some effort, and that is exactly when abandoning feels cheapest. Showing the awkward information early costs a few browsers and keeps the buyers.
Selling anything configurable or anything beyond the UK turns this into a data problem before it is a design problem. Stock has to be tracked down to the component rather than the finished item, tax has to be right for the country buying rather than the country selling, and prices have to convert without going stale. We built exactly that for Kinetic Customs, where a customer designs their own hammer from parts: none of it existed natively in the platform, so it was written from scratch.
What a online shop's site needs to get right
- Delivery cost shown before the checkout, not at the last step
- Stock accurate down to the size, finish or component
- Photography that answers the question people would ask in a shop
- A returns policy written plainly and easy to find
- Tax and currency correct for the country buying
- A separate route for trade or bulk buyers, if you have them
Who We Build For
The online shops we build for
Three shapes of business selling their own product, each with a different thing standing between the visitor and the order.
Makers with a small range
A handful of products, sold direct, where each page has to do the whole job. Nothing is hidden behind a catalogue, so the photography, the specification and the delivery promise carry the sale on their own.
Configurable & made-to-order
Products the customer specifies themselves, where stock lives at the component rather than the item. The build is mostly logic: what can be combined, what is genuinely available, and what it costs once it is.
Selling to consumers and trade
One product, two buyers who behave nothing alike. An individual buys one at list price today, a club or a contractor asks for a quote on ten, and a single page pitched at both tends to convert neither.
What We See
Where online shops lose the order
Delivery cost appears at the last step
The single most common reason a full basket is abandoned. The number is rarely the problem; finding it out after choosing, entering an address and starting to check out is.
Stock that is not really accurate
Selling something you cannot ship costs more than the order. It costs the refund, the apology and any chance of a second purchase, and it is usually a data problem rather than a design one.
Photography that answers the wrong question
A styled hero shot sells the mood. Buyers want the scale, the finish, the underside and the thing in a real hand, which is what they would have checked had they been holding it.
Nothing said about what happens if it is wrong
Returns, warranty and who pays the postage back. Leave it unsaid and the cautious buyer, who is most of them, quietly decides not to risk it.

I had an excellent experience working with WebOws Design. They designed my website and it honestly exceeded all of my expectations. From the very beginning, communication was clear, Replies were always incredibly quick, and any changes or requests I had were handled promptly without any hassle. The attention to detail, professionalism, and willingness to make sure everything was exactly how I wanted really stood out. I highly recommend WebOws Design.
I couldn't recommend Owen and the team highly enough. From start to finish, the communication has been exceptional. Whether it was phone calls, messages or meeting face to face, they were always available, approachable and happy to help. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and they really listened to my ideas and brought them to life. They made the whole process enjoyable and collaborative. They were patient, responsive. I love the finished website and couldn't be happier, thankyou :)
Owen was on hand throughout the entire build time, no matter the hour. I felt heard and understood throughout the build, and no question felt to silly to ask. Owen explained where they were at with the build throughout the process and I cant wait to get going on the live site!
Can't praise Owen highly enough - he was quick, communicative and solved the problem I was having with my website perfectly. He also taught me how to solve the problem myself in the future! Will definitely use WebOws again.
The level of care Owen has is amazing. He has gone above and beyond. The time and care he's put into my little business has made me feel supported at every step. Couldn't recommend more.
Great communication, very quick to get in touch and respond to all messages. Achieved what we asked him to do quickly and efficiently; will definitely use in the future for any website help we need.

I needed some changes done to my existing site on a very quick turnaround. I had a phone call and the changes were done while we spoke. Great service and speed!
Fantastic service by Owen and the team, we had used another company before who let us down and the site performed worse than before so we ended up editing and managing the site in house. We came across Owen and team around 6 weeks ago who completely re-designed our site and made it look amazing. Cost wise, very very good. Build time was quick and we are over the moon with the result. Would recommend Owen and the team to anyone looking for a website re-design or build. Outstanding service from start to finish.
WebOws delivered a sharp, high impact redesign of the Social Football Australia website. Speed was a standout from day one: fast turnaround at every stage, changes implemented quickly, no delays, no chasing. Communication was just as strong, led by Owen: clear, direct updates throughout, quick responses to questions, no confusion around timelines or scope. The final result is clean, professional, and built to convert. I would highly recommend Owen & his team.

Questions
Questions online shops ask us
Yes, and it is a good part of what we do. Kinetic Customs needed a configurator with component-level stock, VAT and shipping tax that change by country, and live currency conversion. None of that is a native feature, and we built it inside Wix with no third-party plugins, then carried the same logic onto a full Wix Studio rebuild.
Shopify is the stronger platform if you are running high volume across many products and channels. Wix is the better answer for most businesses we see, because the shop is one part of a site that also has to sell the brand, and you can edit all of it yourself afterwards. We will say plainly if your case is the Shopify one.
Yes. That means tax at the right rate for the country buying, shipping calculated per destination rather than a flat guess, and prices displayed in the customer's own currency. It is the part of an international shop most likely to be quietly wrong, so it is worth doing properly at build rather than patching later.
Our sites start from £800 and a straightforward shop with a modest range usually lands not far above that. Custom logic, configurators and international tax handling are where the cost genuinely rises, because they are real development rather than configuration. You get a fixed quote before anything starts either way.
Yes, and you should be able to without calling us. Adding a product, changing a price, marking something out of stock and running a discount are all day-to-day jobs that belong to you. We hand it over working, and we are here for the things that genuinely need us.
