Why custom

Templates carry someone else's decisions

A template arrives with bloated code, unused features, and layouts your competitors already use. A custom build starts blank and only carries what your business needs.

Faster, because nothing is unused

Built and compressed for Core Web Vitals, not inherited from a demo site.

Designed for each screen size

Breakpoints tuned individually, with actions inside natural thumb reach.

Wix Legend Partner build

The top tier of Wix's own programme, so the platform is used properly.

Yours to edit afterwards

Trained, handed over, and no developer needed for a text change.

Build packages

Two ways I build, and how to tell which is yours

Both include Foundation SEO free. I will tell you plainly if the cheaper one serves you better.

WebOws Editor

Live quickly, edit it yourself

£800 – £1,000
Custom design on Wix Editor
Wix native features throughout
Fully editable after launch
Bookings or shop from £1,000

Trade-off: less mobile control than Studio. The FAQ below covers exactly what that means.

Best for: service and new businesses, tight timelines.

WebOws Studio

Recommended

Fully responsive, my default

£1,000 – £1,300
Everything in Editor, deeper design
Custom breakpoints per screen
Faster loading, finer control
Bookings or shop from £1,300

Trade-off: costs more because the design work is genuinely deeper. On a very simple site I will say so.

Best for: competitive search, ecommerce, design-led brands.

Brand identity

Branding, handled inside the build

A website cannot be designed without a brand to design it around, so branding sits inside the build rather than as a separate line item. How that works depends on whether you already have guidelines - see the FAQ below.

That covers logo, colour palette, typography and the files you need for print and social, designed alongside the site so the two arrive looking like they belong together.

New businesses

Identity created alongside the site, scoped into one fixed quote.

Established brands

I design to your existing guidelines, included as standard.

Refreshes

Logo and site updated together as one project, so nothing looks bolted on.

Accessible web design

Accessibility, built in from the start

Some customers use a keyboard, a screen reader or a magnified display, and a site built only for a mouse turns them away. What standard I build to and how it gets tested are in the FAQ below.

Built in, not bolted on

Contrast, keyboard operation and touch target sizing live in the design system every site is built from, not a pass I do at the end.

Checked before launch

Every site is tested against WCAG 2.1 AA before it goes live, not just an automated scan I did once.

Good for people, good for Google

Clean heading order, meaningful alt text and keyboard-friendly navigation are accessibility basics that also happen to be technical SEO fundamentals.

See it in practice: this site's own accessibility statement covers exactly what I test and what I found.

Online stores

Ecommerce, built to actually sell

Selling online is a build decision, not a plugin bolted onto a brochure site. I build on Wix's commerce engine, so checkout, payments, tax, shipping and stock run on infrastructure built for it, not stitched-together add-ons. What I design is everything the customer sees: product pages, a smooth checkout, and a catalogue that stays easy to manage.

Product pages that sell

Built around your actual products, not a generic template with your images dropped in.

Checkout without friction

Card, wallet and buy-now-pay-later options, and a checkout with nothing unnecessary standing in the way.

Stock you can manage yourself

Add products, update prices and track stock from an editor built for it, not a spreadsheet you email me.

Fixed builds start from £1,000 on Wix Editor or £1,300 on Wix Studio, both on the £200/year Wix Core plan that ecommerce needs.

Common mistakes

Mistakes we see on small business websites

Treating the homepage as a brochure cover

Say what you do, who you do it for and where, in the first thing a visitor reads. You have a few seconds, not a few paragraphs.

A page for every service and none for any location

Give each area you genuinely serve its own page with real, specific content, not the same paragraph with the town name swapped.

Ignoring how it behaves on a phone

Test on a real phone on mobile data. If you would not complete your own enquiry form on your phone, neither will a customer.

Losing control of the site

Make sure the domain and the site are registered to you, in accounts you can log into. Any decent designer sets it up that way without being asked.

After launch

What happens after your site goes live

On launch day I hand over everything: logins, domain and site, all in accounts registered to you. I connect Google Search Console and Google Analytics so you can see what the site is doing, and submit the sitemap so Google starts indexing straight away.

For the first 30 days, anything that needs fixing or adjusting is covered: genuine support, not a grace period with conditions attached. Most clients use it for small copy changes once the site has been live a fortnight.

After that, you have options. Plenty of clients take the training and manage the site themselves, which is why I build on Wix Studio; others prefer to send changes over. There is no compulsory retainer either way, and coming back six months later for a few hours of work is completely normal.

SEO

Every build ships with Foundation SEO free

Clean structure, fast loading, correct page titles and a submitted sitemap, on every site I build at no extra cost. Two more tiers sit on top if you want hand-written schema or full AEO and GEO visibility - see SEO, AEO & GEO for what each one includes and costs.

Not sure what a build actually comes to with SEO included? Build a starting price to see a package, a site type and an SEO tier combined into one figure.

The decision

Template or custom build?

Both are legitimate. A template launches in days and costs less; a custom build takes two to four weeks and starts at £800. Which is right depends on how competitive your market is.

Why a Wix Legend Partner

Every build is on Wix Studio, from a Legend Partner

Legend is the top tier of Wix's own partner programme, awarded on client results and technical standard rather than time spent on the platform - very few UK agencies hold it. Hire a generalist agency that "also does Wix" and you get someone learning the platform on your project; hire a Legend Partner and you get someone who has already solved the problem you are about to hit.

Wix Velo development

Custom forms, logic and integrations built into your site using Wix's own code layer, when off-the-shelf features are not enough. For a genuinely separate application, see Web Development.

Migrations onto Wix

Moving from WordPress, Squarespace or an old Wix Editor site onto Wix Studio, without losing your content, SEO or rankings.

Beyond the template library

A lot of what looks like "custom Wix design" online is a template with new colours dropped in. Every build here starts from a blank canvas.

The decision

Wix Studio or WordPress?

I build on Wix Studio, so read this knowing that - it still says where WordPress wins, because sending someone to the wrong platform costs more than the job is worth. Three things go to WordPress below.

Wix Studio
WordPress
Running cost
One subscription covers hosting, security and updates
Hosting, plus plugin licences, plus someone keeping it patched
Unusual functionality
Velo covers a lot, but there are ceilings you meet abruptly
Wins. If it can be built for the web, it can be built here
Moving it later
Content exports, the build does not - leaving means rebuilding the front end
Wins. The whole site moves between hosts, and that portability is real
What breaks over time
Little - platform updates are Wix's problem, not yours
Wins on control, loses on effort. Plugin and core updates are the most common cause of a site going down

For a business site of up to about forty pages, Wix Studio usually costs less over five years and goes wrong less often. Need unusual functionality, or does portability matter more than running cost? Hire a WordPress agency - I will tell you which you are at the first conversation, at no charge.

Wix Rescue

Your designer went silent. Now what?

Whether your old designer disappeared, the site is broken, or it just never got finished, I take it over, diagnose exactly what is wrong, and fix it, no matter who built it or how it was left. Quoted after a paid audit from £250, credited against the work if you proceed - nobody can price a fix honestly before seeing what's wrong.

Site takeover & ownership

Full ownership of the existing site, no matter who built it or how it was left.

Diagnosis & fix

Exactly what's broken, slow or missing - fixed without a full rebuild if one isn't needed.

Ongoing management

Once it's fixed, I can manage it going forward so it doesn't end up abandoned again.

Questions

Web design questions I get asked most

More on the full FAQs page.

How many revisions do I get?+

Unlimited during the design phase. I keep iterating until you are happy with the direction before anything is built out across the site.

Will it work properly on mobile?+

Yes, and it is tested on desktop, tablet and mobile before launch. Studio and Performance give fully responsive design with custom breakpoints; Editor uses two adapted layouts, which suits a simple five to eight page site.

Is branding included?+

Designing to your existing brand is always included. Creating or refreshing a logo and identity is scoped into the fixed quote at the start, never added as a surprise later.

Can you take over an existing Wix site?+

Yes. I take ownership and redesign, update or manage it ongoing. If yours was left unfinished by someone else, Wix Rescue is built for exactly that.

Do you build accessible websites?+

On every project. I aim for WCAG 2.1 AA as standard, covering contrast, keyboard operation and screen reader support, tested before launch rather than sold as an extra.

Can you build an online store?+

Yes. Shops start from £1,000 on Wix Editor or £1,300 on Wix Studio, on the Wix Core plan online payments need. Checkout, payments, tax and stock run on Wix's own commerce engine.

What does "Wix Legend Partner" mean?+

It's Wix's own top-tier partner certification, awarded on client results and technical standard rather than time spent on the platform. Very few UK agencies hold it.

Is Wix Studio or WordPress the better choice?+

Neither, for everyone - see the comparison above. For a business site of up to roughly forty pages, Wix Studio usually wins on total cost and how little goes wrong later. For unusual data, heavy integration, or needing to move the whole site between hosts one day, WordPress is the better answer.

My existing Wix site is broken or was left unfinished, can you help?+

Usually, yes, even without login details from whoever built it. A paid audit from £250, credited against the work, tells you honestly whether to repair it or rebuild - see Wix Rescue above.

A quick call is enough for me to scope a fixed price, with no obligation to go ahead and no hard sell. If I am not the right fit I will say so.
