Wix Studio vs Wix Editor

Most web designers still work in the older Wix Editor, which is simpler but far more limited. We build exclusively in Wix Studio, Wix's professional-grade design platform, which gives us the same level of control over responsive breakpoints, custom interactions and site structure that a hand-coded site would offer, without losing Wix's editing simplicity for you afterwards.

When Wix Studio is the right choice

We are a Wix Legend Partner, so it would be easy to say Wix suits everyone. It does not, and here is where the line falls.

Wix Studio works well if

  • You want to manage your own content without paying a developer for every text change
  • You need a professional site built in weeks rather than months
  • You want hosting, security and platform updates handled rather than managed by you
  • You need CMS-driven pages, a shop, or booking, without stitching together plugins
  • You would rather spend your budget on design and search than on infrastructure

If Wix is the wrong tool for what you need, we will say so. We would rather lose a project than build something on a platform that will frustrate you in eighteen months.

What It Costs

What a Wix Studio build costs

Wix Studio builds start at £800 for a custom multi-page site. Most business projects land between £800 and £2,500, with e-commerce and custom functionality from £2,000.

The platform does not change the pricing logic: you are paying for design and build time, not for Wix. What Wix Studio changes is what that time produces. Because we are not fighting the platform or learning it on your project, more of the budget goes into design, structure and search foundations rather than into working out how to make something behave.

Custom functionality is where Wix work varies most in price. A product configurator, a stock system that tracks components, VAT logic that changes by country: we have built all three inside Wix without third-party plugins. That work is quoted on what it involves, and we will tell you honestly if what you want is a poor fit for the platform.

You will also pay Wix directly for a premium plan, typically £10 to £30 a month depending on what the site needs. That is billed by Wix to you, not marked up through us, and it stays in your name so you keep control of the account.

How Long It Takes

How long a Wix Studio build takes

Two to four weeks for most business sites. Builds with e-commerce, booking systems or custom functionality take four to eight weeks.

Structure before design

We map the site and the CMS collections first. Getting the content model right early is what stops a Wix site becoming unmanageable once it has a few dozen pages.

Design in Wix Studio, not in a mockup

We design in the platform the site will live on, so what you approve is what gets built. No surprises where a mockup turns out not to be buildable as drawn.

Responsive by breakpoint

Wix Studio's breakpoint system lets us set layouts deliberately at each screen size rather than hoping the automatic version behaves. Every breakpoint is checked by hand.

Preview, revise, launch

You get a live preview link to click through on your own devices. We revise, run the pre-launch checks, connect the domain and publish.

Wix Studio or Wix Editor?

Both are Wix, and the naming causes genuine confusion. This is the practical difference for a business site.

For a small brochure site you intend to maintain yourself, Editor is perfectly capable and simpler to learn. For anything where the design needs to hold up precisely across devices, or where the site has to compete in search, Studio is the better foundation. We build in Studio by default and would need a specific reason not to.

Common Mistakes

Mistakes we see on Wix sites

We audit and rescue a lot of Wix sites. These are the problems that come up again and again, and none are the platform's fault.

  1. Starting from a template and never restructuring it

    Templates come with a page structure built for a fictional business. Keeping it means your services, locations and priorities are forced into a shape designed for someone else, and search engines see a structure they have crawled thousands of times.

    What to do instead: Decide your own page structure before touching a template, then build to it. Wix Studio has no requirement to keep a template's architecture, most people just never change it.

  2. Ignoring the mobile breakpoints

    Wix generates a mobile layout automatically and it is usually workable but rarely good. Elements overlap, text sizes jump around, and tap targets end up too small, which is where most of your traffic actually is.

    What to do instead: Set each breakpoint deliberately in Wix Studio rather than accepting the automatic layout. It takes hours, not days, and it is the difference between a site that works on a phone and one that merely fits.

  3. Uploading enormous images

    Wix compresses images, but it cannot rescue a 6MB photograph straight off a camera. Oversized media is the single most common cause of poor Core Web Vitals scores on Wix sites, and it directly affects both rankings and how many visitors wait for the page.

    What to do instead: Resize images to the largest size they will ever display before uploading, and let Wix handle format conversion from there. Most site images never need to be wider than about 2000 pixels.

  4. Leaving the SEO settings on their defaults

    Wix generates page titles and descriptions automatically when you do not set them. The results are generic, frequently duplicated across pages, and waste the most valuable text you control in search results.

    What to do instead: Write a unique title and description for every page, set the structured data properly, and check the indexing settings. Wix gives you full control here, it just does not force you to use it.

After Launch

After launch: training, ownership and support

The Wix account stays in your name, you get a walkthrough of how to edit the site, and 30 days of support are included.

Everything is set up under your own Wix account from the start, with us added as a collaborator rather than the other way round. If you ever want to work with someone else, or take over entirely, you remove our access and carry on. Nothing needs migrating and no transfer request is required.

Before launch we walk you through the parts of the site you are most likely to want to change: text, images, adding a page, adding an item to a CMS collection. This is where Wix Studio genuinely earns its place, because those edits do not need a developer and should not cost you money.

For the first 30 days after launch, anything that needs fixing or adjusting is included. After that, come back whenever you need to. Some clients want a monthly arrangement, most prefer to send work over as it comes up, and both are fine.
